New Name, Same Church

Word on the street is that GP Boston → Reclaimer College Church. 

What does this change mean for us? Honestly, not much! We’re changing our name as a response to network-wide restructuring as we transition from Gracepoint Ministries to Acts2 Network. But for our church in Boston, we’ll have the same faces, same memories, and same values. Our name change will simply be a new way to refer to our church and will also more accurately reflect our values, mission, and identity as a college church. 

But as to how we landed on Reclaimer as our church name, here’s a quick history lesson that inspired the name.

Williams College | Williamstown, MA

In 1806 at Williams College in Williamstown, MA, five college students gathered under a haystack to seek shelter from the rain. As they waited for the rain to subside, perhaps one of the most unexpected revivals was birthed with this unlikely group who gathered that day to discuss and pray for the spiritual needs of countries abroad. Out of this unassuming meeting came a foreign missions movement where some of the first Protestant missionaries were sent to foreign countries to share and proclaim the Gospel. 

Harvard University | Cambridge, MA

Harvard was established in 1636 by Puritans who settled in Massachusetts Bay just a few years prior. Its mission statement was clear: “Everyone shall consider as the main end of his life and studies, to know God and Jesus Christ, which is eternal life. John 17:3.” Its motto echoed the school’s commitment to honoring God: Christi Gloriam - For the glory of Christ. It was first established to train clergy and inscriptions still remain on different buildings that proclaim its Christian foundations. In fact, walk into Harvard Yard and you’ll see engraved on Emerson Hall a portion of Psalm 8:4 “What is man that thou art mindful of him.” 

Boston is a city with such a rich Christian history. Along with Williams College and Harvard University, Northeastern University, Boston College, and Boston University all have Christian roots: Northeastern was founded by the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), Boston College by Jesuits, and Boston University started as a Methodist seminary. 

Reclaimer College Church has the vision to reclaim the original mission of these college campuses through the same Gospel message. Our hope is that college students will meet Christ here and be empowered to lead a modern spiritual revival first across the city of Boston, then the country, and eventually the world.
